Trip Details

DAY 1: Arrival at the lodge in Moshi a day before the start of climbing for a pre-climb briefing, equipment checks and for a checkup of mandatory medical requirement and travel insurance.

DAY 2: We will drive to Marangu for registration and formalities, then to Rongai. The hike starts at the Nale Moru (6,400 ft), and after a day walk, we will camp at Rongai One Camp (8,500 ft).

DAY 3: We will climb up to the Second Cave (11,300 ft), and then we will have lunch. We will keep climbing towards the jagged peaks of Mawenzi. We will camp near Kikelewa Caves (11,800 ft).

DAY 4: We will keep climbing to reach the next camp at Mawenzi Tarn (14,200 ft).

DAY 5: We will walk across the lunar desert of the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo to reach Kibo Hut (15,400 ft). We will rest in preparation for an early morning final climb.

DAY 6: Around 1 am, we begin the last journey with light by slowly walking in the dark to reach the rim of the crater at Gilman's Point (18,600 feet). We rest here for a short time to enjoy the spectacular sunrise over Mawenzi. Those who are still feeling strong can climb for a three-hour trip to Uhuru Peak (19,341 feet After the summit, we will retrace our steps along the crater rim to Kibo Hut (15,400 ft). We will continue to Horombo Huts (12,200 ft).

DAY 7: A steady ride down through moorland to Mandara Huts (8,900 ft). We then continue descending to the Kilimanjaro National Park gate at Marangu (6,000 ft).

DAY 8: After breakfast, you will transfer to the Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).
